Banquet Hall Decorations
By Hanna Nilson

From balloons and streamers to silverware and table centerpieces; banquet hall decorations are essential for creating the right mood and aesthetic appeal that will best compliment your event.

Whether you’re planning your banquet hall event for a wedding of 500 or family reunion of 50; it is important to consider things such as budgeting, themes and context, the number of guests and seating arrangements. Furthermore, the decorations should be coordinated as fitting to the season, time of day, and (if the event is held outdoors) of course, the weather.

Basically, formal banquet hall decorating is an art. A good eye for detail and style is a must! This is why people are willing to stretch funds, just to make sure everything looks great. Truly, professional decorators can be expensive. So you may want to consider being inventive and resourceful. You’d be surprised at how much money you can save by doing a little of the decorating yourself WeddingDetails.com says: “The mood of a reception, party, or gathering is determined by the theme of decorations. Decorations create an atmosphere and add color, beauty and festivity to the occasion! The initial reaction to the array of decorations sets the mood.”

For example; if you’re planning a wedding, you may want to use similar colors and themes for your banquet hall decorations. If you decide to do this, be careful to avoid being too repetitive. Also, some may even consider reusing decorations from the main event for the following reception or banquet. While it’s understandable that times are tough and people are especially concerned about saving money, with this practice, it’s important to keep a balance between a well deserved splurging and creative parsimony. Be sure to bring in subtle variations in the decoration so that both the venues do not appear identical and limited.

If you are of the mind to create a more romantic and elegant venue, you may want to decorate the hall with decorative candles and warm colors, soften the illumination by dimming the lights. You may also hang miniature lanterns in the room and play soft and soothing music in the background. On the other hand; set a more exciting atmosphere with banquet hall decorations by giving it a party feel with festive colors, lights and ornaments. Consider adding a disco ball and play peppy dance numbers for a little extra flavor.

Decoration of the banquet hall tables is an important focal point. Consider adding an attractive centerpiece, made of flower, fruits, candles or balloons. The dishes, silverware and flatware should of course be arranged neatly. Keep in mind how many guests you have as this will determine how the tables will be decorated and arranged. Be sure not to over crowd the tables.

Even if you plan on hiring a professional for help with your banquet hall decoration, don’t be afraid to let them know exactly what you want. Just because they specialize in decorating, doesn’t mean they will automatically understand your expectations. WeddingDetails continues: “Professional decorators and supply houses should be willing to listen to what you have in mind, give suggestions, and even demonstrate your theme for you.” Basically, don’t be afraid to speak your mind. Granted, they will usually take some time to better understand what you’re looking for. However, it’s easy to get carried away and loose site of your original intentions. Don’t let this happen…banquets are supposed to be enjoyable for everyone, including you. Remember, if you’re going to go out of your way to coordinate you banquet hall directions, you might as well have a little fun in the process!
